My Super Superbowl Sunday!

While all you guys are camped out in front of your TVs today watching the Superbowl, Matt and I are going to see Spamalot.

This is the first Sunday that Matt has been off of work in 4 weeks. He is suppose to be on call every other Sunday, but it seems that the days he's off, they make it a mandatory work day because of the cold.

Because my mother lives downtown, we are going to her house then Matt and I are taking the bus to the theatre while the girls get to have some Mema time. We get to have a date!!

I am really excited, this is the last show here in Chicago and Richard Chamberlain is starring in it. As in Thornbirds Richard Chamberlain!!

We are very lucky to live here where so many shows either make their debute or come on a tour. My mother and my stepfather have always been theater goers and I have always been a theater lover since I was a child. I have seen some really wonderful shows with some really big names.

The King and I with Yule Brenner (He had a sore throat that night and couldn't sing one of his solos, he was later diagnosed with throat cancer)
Sugar Babies with Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller
Cats
42nd Street with Jerry Orbach (My absolute favorite Broadway star. If you don't know who he is, he was Baby's dad on Dirty Dancing)
Peter Pan with Sandy Duncan
Speed the Plow with William Peterson
The Man Who Came to Dinner with John Mahoney
Chicago with Ann Rinking and BeBe Neuwirth
MamaMia
ShowBoat with Dick Van Patton and Marilyn McCoo
Wicked with Ana Gasteyer (Formerly of SNL)

Emerson is starting to get to see a lot of plays and musicals too. My stepfather loves to take her to the Looking Glass theater. Her favorites so far have been A day with Frog and Toad, Wicked and The Tortoise and the Hare.

Have a great Superbowl Sunday and enjoy your pigskin! I will let you know how Spamalot and our day went later tonight or tomorrow.

Sounds like a fantastic alternative plan! Since we managed to escape, err, the party we were going to isn't happening tonight, we'll probaby have the game on. Or not. Thankfully, the husband isn't much into football. Enjoy!

Personally, I think your plans sound better than watching football. Enjoy the show! :)

Ahhh, nothing like the "Fisch Schlapping Song" to rekindle some romance...

I would love to take Morgan to see that. He loves Monty Python. We have seen The Nutcracker, The Lion King and Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, starring Patrick Cassidy, you know, David's brother. It also had Amy Adams of American Idol fame. We had front row seats and it was amazing.

Hope you enjoy your show. Can't wait to hear all about it. My family is watching the game. I am enjoying quiet computer time!!

We are very fortunate to have so many options here in the city and the suburbs for having a "theatre" experience. I would have loved to have seen Wicked, but the tickets were just too expensive. I've seen many at Drury Lane that were awesome. Most didn't have big name stars in them though.
