I'm sorry for not being around lately. Things have been insane around here. My stepmother was taken to the Emergency room the Sunday after Christmas. Now she is in ICU. I have been driving my father to the hospital, doing his laundry, and just trying to help out in any way. Meanwhile, Matt went on nights, so he works 11pm to 7am and then sleeps during the day. He really likes it, but it's taken some time to get used to.
I don't believe I have been this busy when I was working!!! What is it about families? They find out you're at home and all of a sudden they think I'm available to do their bidding.
I am doing my best to stay positive. There were and are a lot of lies told by my father regarding my stepmother. I feel really stupid for believing them when they told me they weren't drinking. Well, now the proof is in the pudding, or in this case, the liver. He still won't admit it.
I'll try to be around a little more and to keep you updated. Hope everyone has a Happy New Year.

Sorry to hear this... Yes, people that drink heavily have a difficult time with the truth. Sometimes the brain is so soaked in alcohol though that they don't even know the truth anymore.

One point though... Some people can have a liver that suggests they are heavy drinkers, but they hardly drink. My brother has a blood disorder that was originally diagnosed as heavy drinking and heavy smoking, but he doesn't smoke and hardly drinks. The same disorder makes it seem he has the body of a 60 year old. He's 29 years old. I'm not saying that this is the case for your step-mother. I'm just saying that it could be that a small amount of drink - an amount your dad would consider "not drinking" - can cause as much trouble for some people's livers as constantly consuming large amounts of alcahol can for others. So it could be that your Dad isn't lying. It could be that he doesn't see that the odd drink is "drinking" and that odd drink is just too much for your step-mother's liver to deal with. Just a thought.

The night shift is really difficult to get used to. Hard enough when both are running the same shift as friends and family just dont get that you have different sleep schedules. Worse yet is if one in the household HAS to stay on days due to children or a job or whatever. Each side needs to learn to take into account that the other really needs to stay on their sleep patterns, otherwise they will be ineffective in the tasks they are responsible.
