We introduced Emerson to one of my literary and cinematic heroes tonight.
Rosalind Russell as Auntie Mame.
She was introduced to me by my grandmother when I was about Emerson's age.
If you've never seen this movie, by all means, do. It's a must.
Here's the original trailer.
And just remember; "Life's a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!"

I love it when we get the chance to pass our tv and movie passion onto our kids and they take it and run! You are creating a wonderful lifelong friend there! Me and Tatum stay up late watching all "ours shows" (reality tv) and she has been educated well on all (of what I think) classic movies. She knows "Where the Heart Is", and "Fried Green Tomatoes", "Forrest Gump" and "What Lies Beneath" and "Six Sense".
There is nothing cooler than your almost 16 year old wanting to go to the movies with you, or counting down the days till our show is on.
Love it!
That's a great movie. I always watched movies with my kids and now with my granddaughter. We like the old ones the best.
I've never heard of this movie before! I'm writing it down to check it out. Thanks hun!
That's one of my favorites too!
Mmm.. judging by the trailer, that movie has some cool role playing for the both of you - just remember to put teh popcorn down first!
Hope your knee is better today!
I've never even heard of it before... now I'm all interested!
Thought I had seen all the old classics, but sure don't remember this one... I think I was too busy watching Doris Day and Rock Hudson flicks.

LIVE! Great movie. Thanks for reminding me!
I've never seen this movie before... I think I'll have to find it! I never really liked the old classic movies until I met Mike. Then he brainwashed me. Sigh.
Ahh...classic movies are the best!!! John always makes fun of me because I'll stay up late to watch them. My girls have inherited my love of them!!
I can't believe how many commenters said they've never heard of Auntie Mame! Now, I will admit I've never seen it, but I have heard of it, I know it's been on tv before. Maybe the reason I never watched it before is because I'm not familiar with anything else Rosalind Russell did, or noticed any other "stars" in the credits.
I do love all the classics, the old ones, not the "new classics". I'm accumulating quite a list of movies to watch, this will be added to it.
Sorry to disappoint you, but I've never even heard of it. And - to be honest - even the trailor didn't keep my attention properly, so it's not something I think I'll be rushing to try and watch.
Never seen it! Maybe one of these rainy days...
Auntie Mame! Love that movie! I just watched The Unsinkable Molly Brown with Debbie Reynolds. I had a smile on my face almost the whole time.
Okay, true story. My old boss was R. Russell's son. No lie. He had the BEST stories about his life growing up in that world. Woo-Hoo!
Awesome post...
