This Would Make Even Tim Gunn Stand Up and Take Notice!!

Last night, Emerson had a school concert in which she sang with her class. The theme was 50's Sock Hop. She was required to wear items of clothing from the era; poodle skirts, sunglasses, wide headbands, scarves, etc.

According to Emerson, it was imperative that she wore a poodle skirt.

A poodle skirt...SERIOUSLY??!??!

I don't know if I have ever mentioned this, but I work full time outside the home. I also have a husband who works ungodly hours and another child who's a little...we'll call it...needy.

Emerson: "Please mommy, I don't want to be the only kid who's not dressed up!"

Me: "OK, we'll figure something out."

Have I mentioned that I cannot sew to save my life? Nope, not a stitch. But I have MAD SKILLZ when it comes to Velcro.

So, Tuesday night after I picked up Vivi, went to the Chiropractor, I stopped at Hobby Lobby. I got some lilac satin material, Velcro, something called Liquid Stitch, and an iron-on poodle.

I got home about 8pm and started working.

I also have a MONSTER cold that has left me with no voice, an ear ache, a headache, and a fever never under 101.1 for 3 days now. ( I know, I need to go to the doctor, I will in my spare time)

So last night, this is what she looked like at her concert. (I back combed her hair)

And here is a little video of her speech that she had to say.

She was a HUGE HIT and I was a little disappointed when I saw that some of the parent's interpretation of the "50's look" was something to be desired. But I won't show you the pictures.

None the less, Emerson was her usual fabulous self and I can drink my NyQuil with White Russian chaser feeling a little bit superior.

Tonight, remind me to tell you the "Shoes at Walmart" story. You'll get a kick out of that one.

You have the right to feel superior! That is one wicked poodle skrit.
Feel free to tell anyone who asks that you spent hours laboriously stitching.
I was going to compliment Emerson on her fabulous American accent to go with the 50s outfit - but then I remembered it's not fake. Well, congrats anyway!

What a cutie! And good job on the skirt girl, I wouldn't be able to do that!

I loved her little speech, especially her little gun pointing fingers and the end! Classic!

Very Very cute. She is adorable. You did a great job on her skirt.

You know, you never get sick when nothing is going on. You get sick when you absolutely cannot take a break.

Get better.
