Last night, Emerson had a school concert in which she sang with her class. The theme was 50's Sock Hop. She was required to wear items of clothing from the era; poodle skirts, sunglasses, wide headbands, scarves, etc.
According to Emerson, it was imperative that she wore a poodle skirt.
A poodle skirt...SERIOUSLY??!??!
I don't know if I have ever mentioned this, but I work full time outside the home. I also have a husband who works ungodly hours and another child who's a little...we'll call it...needy.
Emerson: "Please mommy, I don't want to be the only kid who's not dressed up!"
Me: "OK, we'll figure something out."
Have I mentioned that I cannot sew to save my life? Nope, not a stitch. But I have MAD SKILLZ when it comes to Velcro.
So, Tuesday night after I picked up Vivi, went to the Chiropractor, I stopped at Hobby Lobby. I got some lilac satin material, Velcro, something called Liquid Stitch, and an iron-on poodle.
I got home about 8pm and started working.
I also have a MONSTER cold that has left me with no voice, an ear ache, a headache, and a fever never under 101.1 for 3 days now. ( I know, I need to go to the doctor, I will in my spare time)
So last night, this is what she looked like at her concert. (I back combed her hair)
And here is a little video of her speech that she had to say.
She was a HUGE HIT and I was a little disappointed when I saw that some of the parent's interpretation of the "50's look" was something to be desired. But I won't show you the pictures.
None the less, Emerson was her usual fabulous self and I can drink my NyQuil with White Russian chaser feeling a little bit superior.
Tonight, remind me to tell you the "Shoes at Walmart" story. You'll get a kick out of that one.

OMG I bow to your greatness! There is no way I would have done all of that with a cold and a fever. That speech was awsome!
You have impressed me. To pull that cute costume together under teh circumstances... simply amazing!
You should be in Hollywood doing wardrobe for "The Johnny".
You totally deserve a Mommy of the Year award for that one. The skirt looks great!
Amazing the lengths you will go to for your babies, isn't it?
Can't wait to hear the shoe story...
Those were some serious MAD SKILLZ with velcro & liquid stitch. YOU ROCK!!
She looked fabulous!
I can't sew to save my life. But like you, I have mastered velcro. And duct tape. Especially duct tape.
Emerson looked so cute! You really did a fantastic job!
You did an awesome job...I can't tell you don't have skillz!!!
She did fabulous...so cute on video!
What a cutie patooti! I must say though, she looked so cute and portrayed the 50's much better than the rest of them!!
You have the right to feel superior! That is one wicked poodle skrit.
Feel free to tell anyone who asks that you spent hours laboriously stitching.
I was going to compliment Emerson on her fabulous American accent to go with the 50s outfit - but then I remembered it's not fake. Well, congrats anyway!
xx
I am in shock. How the heck did you possibly make that skirt with velcro and liquid stitch? She did an awesome job. Kudos to you both. Now I'll wait to hear about the shoes...
So 50's and so adorable! Kinda reminded me of the Grease movie w/ Olivia Newton John and John Travolta. I'd say, you did a mighty swell job there gurl!
She did an awesome job with the speach... And I'm sure you did an awesome job on her outfit! :)
*Waits patiently to hear about the shoes*
What a cutie! And good job on the skirt girl, I wouldn't be able to do that!
I loved her little speech, especially her little gun pointing fingers and the end! Classic!
Oh, and I hope you feel better!
Very Very cute. She is adorable. You did a great job on her skirt.
You know, you never get sick when nothing is going on. You get sick when you absolutely cannot take a break.
Get better.
Look at you pulling it together!! It looks fantastic... you deserve a Mom-award for that!!!
You did great!!! If you did that with velco and liquid glue, you should start a class or something! Amazing!
Emerson looked cute cute cute;)
Girl, your mad skillz are great. She looks fab.
Seriously, you lost your voice. Is Matt lovin' that! Hey I made a rhyme, I do it all the time! Ha I did it again. Sorry, got carried away there for a minute.
Anyway, tell Em great job and I want her autograph.
Awesome job on the skirt!! That's very impressive! I'm not so sure what I would've been able to come up with at such short notice ;)
